It’s safe to say that winter is upon us. Cold, crisp mornings and darker evenings call for blankets, candles and hearty home cooked meals. It’s time to embrace winter and step up the styling in your home with Spatial’s tips for a cosy interior.
Play with Colour
Say goodbye to cool, lighter tones and hello to a rich, warm palette. Try swapping light greys and blues for oatmeal beiges, emerald greens or rusty orange. These darker hues help to achieve a cosy and inviting aesthetic - and are right on trend at the moment.
Using different tones of one colour, or complimentary colours, brings cohesion and a sense of calm to a space. Try layering by using the same hues across different forms, such as paint, throws, cushions and artwork.
Layering is especially important in the colder winter months. When it comes to cushions and throws, the more the merrier. Whether it’s in your lounge room or bedroom, adding textured and chunky throws never fails to create a feeling of warmth and comfort.
Try draping a knitted throw over the sofa or the end of a bed. Or add a warm, textured rug to winter-proof your floor.
Dark, cold evenings will have you wanting to snuggle up on the sofa. Adding mood lighting will help you create a haven at home. Globes with yellow undertones, or a few flickering candles, cast an ambient light and help create the warmth and comfort everyone craves on a cold evening! Or try using a lamp rather than downlights for an especially warm effect.
Bringing the outside in is the perfect antidote for the winter blues. Adding plants to a room not only improves air quality but is also fresh and uplifting when the skies are grey and dreary. Some of our favourites (that don’t require a green thumb) are Devils Ivy, Zanzibar Gem and Strelitzia.
