2024 Property Styling Trends

With the new year comes a fresh set of styling trends and the overall feeling for 2024 is about creating a comfortable and inspiring space that will stand the test of time. Designers and homeowners are shifting away from very minimal design and leaning towards spaces that feel lived in, functional and fun. Here are some of the design trends we’re embracing in our property styling installations...

Colour

This year is all about earthy nature inspired tones like terracotta and rich deep greens. When selling your home, we still suggest keeping your walls white and large furniture items a light neutral colour, but there’s plenty of opportunity to introduce darker, moodier colours through artwork, soft furnishings and accessories.

Texture

Similarly, textures are taking their cues from nature, with natural fibres and materials reigning supreme. Timber furniture, heavy linens and organic shaped ceramics are ways we can introduce these elements into a styled home. The extra layer created through textural elements has a huge impact in creating a warm and homely feel.

Bringing the outside in

The merging of inside and outside space is a highly desirable feature in Australian homes. In property styling, we bring the outside in through the use of greenery. Depending on the size of your space, it may be some large feature plants or a vase or pot with flowers or foliage. Even smaller touches of green will create a connection with nature and sense of serenity.

Wellness Spaces

If the last few years have been about home offices, people are now looking for wellness spaces. Somewhere you can set up a gym, sauna, yoga mat, or simply a quiet corner to focus on your well-being. If your home doesn’t allow for a designated space, creating a spa-like sanctuary in your bathroom through luxurious towels and accessories is the next best thing.

Slow furniture

There are some mass produced furniture pieces that we turn to again and again for property styling, mainly for their versatility in a broad range of spaces, however, as the broader design industry embraces the slow furniture trend, we’re also looking at ways we can incorporate this in our styling. Last year we invested in several new ranges of quality furniture pieces that are timeless in design and built to last. These custom pieces are primarily made from sustainably grown timber and are currently being manufactured, we can’t wait to introduce them into our styling projects this year.

Curves

Curves are popping up everywhere, from door arches and walls to island bench tops and custom cabinetry. Instantly creating softness, they make us feel cocooned, safe and warm and are naturally soothing to our eyes.

From a styling perspective, you can introduce this trend through shapely sofas, mirrors and accessories. At Spatial, we’ve designed and built a custom range of organic shaped dining, coffee and side tables that are some of our most loved pieces, reflecting the beautiful shapes found in nature and adding a softness to the properties we style.
